Letter from Basil Lowrey to John Washington Lowrey (copy in my possession), dated May 12, 1866 Basil speaks of Andrew's death:

"The report in regard to Brother Andrew is true; the jay hawkers last April was two years ago (1865) took him out of his house in the night pretending they was taking him to the yankees' headquarters and carried him off and kept him a day and night (I believe) and then shot him after giving him notice what they were going to do. They said they notified him so that he might have time to prepare. He told them he was prepared to die and asked them to tell his wife and children to meet him in heaven. After killing him they dragged him off and threw him into a lake of water and a citizen went and got him out, carried him to his house and sent for his wife. She came and had his likeness taken and had him buried. His family moved to Texas last fall (1865).
